Zygoma Implants
A common procedure that fully edentulous patients (i.e. patients who have lost all of the teeth in one or both jaws) elect to undergo is the All-on-4 Implant System, where the prosthesis (denture) is permanently affixed to the jaw bone utilizing four traditional dental implants per jaw. However, patients who have sustained significant bone loss in the jaw may not be a candidate for traditional dental implants. With the development of the Zygoma Implant, there is now a solution for these challenging cases! Our surgeons are able to place implants in the zygomatic (cheek) bone that reaches down to where the teeth naturally come out. This affords our patients the ability to undergo successful All-on-4 conversion of existing dentures, or many other configurations for missing teeth and little to no bone, with exceptional results!
If Dr. Reynolds determines that the patient has sustained significant bone loss (resorption) in the maxilla (upper jaw bone), we are proud to offer the Brånemark System® Zygoma Implant (Nobel Biocare) that can support an implant bridge or an overdenture. The Zygoma implant is anchored in the zygomatic bone (cheekbone) in a single outpatient procedure and eliminates the need for extensive and costly bone grafting from other sites in the body. The Zygoma implant is ideal for patients who have sustained significant bone loss in the maxilla but still wish to have dental implants to improve their smile and restore the functionality of their teeth!
Patients who have had Zygoma implants placed by our team have experienced excellent results and have great stability and functionality with their implant-supported restorations.
