Tibial Bone Graft

The tibia is the main weight-bearing bone of the leg below the knee. (The other bone, the fibula does not support weight significantly.) Just below the knee joint the “head” of the tibia contains a good source of cancellous (marrow) bone. The procedure involves a 1-inch incision and is frequently done in our outpatient office surgical suite under IV sedation.
