Iliac Crest Bone Graft (Hip Bone Graft)
The Iliac Crest is the superior (upper) edge of the hip bone. The anterior (front) iliac crest is easily felt and is where a belt would cross your hipbone on your sides. The iliac bone is an excellent source of both cortical (surface) and cancellous (marrow) bone. A 2-inch incision over the site is all that is needed to access this bone. This procedure is usually done in the hospital or surgery center but can also be done in our out-patient office surgical suite.
