The tibia is the main weight bearing bone of the leg below the knee. (The other bone, the fibula does not support weight significantly.) Just below the knee joint the “head” of the tibia contains a good source of cancellous (marrow) bone. The procedure involves a 1 inch incision and is frequently done in our out- patient office surgical suite under IV sedation.
